Marilyn and Frank Weiner: A Love Connection
Lifelong Chicago natives Marilyn and Frank Weiner have a special connection with Lincoln Park Zoo—it’s where
they fell in love. Born in the same hospital (two years apart), Marilyn and Frank didn’t cross paths until about
30 years later when a mutual acquaintance played matchmaker. Their “get to know you” first meeting over coffee
at the Golden Nugget was soon followed by a date at Lincoln Park Zoo.
It was on that very first date that they knew it was love. “I never wanted to get married until Frank came
along,” says Marilyn. “He is the kindest man I ever met.” The couple were engaged three weeks later.
Since then, Lincoln Park Zoo has held a special place in their hearts. They continue to visit the zoo nearly
every week when the weather is nice to take in the peaceful natural setting and watch the animals play,
especially their beloved big cats. “It just feels good to be at the zoo—there is no better place to be,” Marilyn
As animal lovers and longtime members of the zoo, Marilyn and Frank appreciate the zoo’s work in animal care and
conservation. Their deep connection helped them decide they wanted to support the zoo through a gift in their
estate plan. “We are proud of Lincoln Park Zoo, and we are proud to be a part of it, so we wanted to make a gift
to help the zoo to continue to do good work after we’re gone,” Frank says.
In addition to the satisfaction of supporting their beloved zoo, the Weiners enjoy being members of the Heritage
Society because of the friends they have made through the group. “We really feel like we belong to something,”
Marilyn says. “It’s a special connection.”
